Mechanic–Transportation Department
One full-time Mechanic to work 8hrs per day, Monday through Friday on the day shift. This position works on a 260 day calendar. Responsible for maintaining school buses, other motor vehicles, and other equipment in good working order; maintaining the garage so that it provides a clean and safe work environment; and provide school bus drivers with information to facilitate the preservation of school buses and related equipment.
Qualifications:
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to the 12th grade
- Four years experience in automotive mechanics, one year of which must have been at the journey level or equivalent
- Must be able to meet or exceed the annual state required physical examination
- Must be able to pass drug & alcohol testing as required by law and district policies and procedures
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus Driver’s Endorsement
- Must possess and maintain a good driving record and criminal background check
- No moving traffic violations within the past two years and not more than one moving violation within the past three
- No conviction of driving under the influence/or a controlled substance; railroad crossing violation; or individual 6 point conviction within the past 10 years
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
Job Duties:
- Repairs and maintains diesel engines and other vehicles and equipment
- Inspects buses in order to prepare them for the annual Highway Patrol inspection
- Removes and installs parts and components on engines
- Performs engine maintenance for buses, vehicles, and equipment
- Changes oil, filters, and lubricates vehicles and other motorized equipment
- Changes and repairs tires
- Replaces brake components and makes adjustments
- Repairs and/or replaces electronic diagnostics systems, lights, instrument panel systems, and accessories
- Makes service calls to repair broken down or damaged vehicles and/or equipment
- Performs shop clean-up tasks as required
- Maintains necessary records concerning repairs performed and parts used
- Serves as a replacement for absent bus drivers in an emergency situation
- Orders parts and manages parts inventory
- Assists in development and maintenance of a vehicle and equipment PM program
Job Skills & Abilities:
- General knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of truck and automobile mechanics
- Ability to maintain engines
- Ability to locate and correct defects in automotive equipment
- Ability to perform physical labor (for example: lift, bend, twist, lift arms above head, etc.)
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors co-workers, and drivers
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain insurability through district fleet policy
- Ability to use technology to complete daily and assigned tasks appropriate for the position
*Salary Range $22.77/hr to $28.97/hr*
